TOUCH MEANS MORE THAN WORDS

WHEN TOUCH MEANS MORE THAN WORDS

This piece [When touch means more than words] was initially a rejected submission for the demo fest. By some sheer luck! it was eventually picked up by @design instagram account. thank you kermac !

Design instagram's caption: When @angryrestingface thinks of her 91-year-old grandmother – “a great source of strength and joy” – it’s not their conversations or shared activities that come to mind. They don’t speak the same language, and dementia has made Phoebe’s grandmother forgetful of loved ones’ faces. “However, when I hug her or hold her hand, she seems to know it’s me,” says Phoebe, an art director at a global communications firm in Singapore. With this animation, she explains, “I wanted to capture that magical feeling – touch as a love language that transcends the barriers of language and dementia.” 💞

It's been 3 years since this post and my grandma has left me in the November of 2023. This work has evolved from the love language of touching --- transcending dementia, to perhaps the longing touch of someone that is no longer around.
